Drowning deaths continue to rise during these extremely hot days in France. A 6-year-old boy also died in the last few hours , bringing the death toll since June 18th to 42. Three cases were reported in the last few hours, two of them fatal, BFM TV reports.

In Bègles, Gironde, the child, who escaped his parents' attention last night shortly before 7:00 PM, was rescued from the waves and died shortly thereafter in the hospital. In the Marne region, east of Ile-de-France, two boys dived into a restricted area of the river; one drowned, the other was hospitalized in shock.

Finally, in Val-d'Oise, north of Paris, two children, aged 3 and 9, dived into a private pool while their father was tending the garden. The younger child fell under the water and was hospitalized with a critical prognosis.
