The four Italian parliamentarians who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla have been freed by Israeli authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
Senator Marco Croatti, MEP Annalisa Corrado, MP Arturo Scotto, and MEP Benedetta Scuderi were stopped as they approached the coast of Gaza.
Minister Tajani had had several contacts with Israeli Minister Saar, asking for his immediate release.
The Italian parliamentarians were transferred to Tel Aviv airport and will take a scheduled flight assisted by embassy staff.
Tajani contacted his Israeli counterpart Gideon Sa'ar to request information and guarantees for all the other Italians on the flotilla—about forty—arrested in Israel. The minister also asked for all procedures to be expedited for the immediate release of all Italian citizens.
"I spoke with the four Italian parliamentarians released by the Israeli authorities and the other Italian activists of the Flotilla in Ashdod, they are all well, there has been no mistreatment," said the Italian ambassador to Israel, Luca Ferrari.
