After his first failed attempt on September 4th, Alessandro Di Battista managed to board an air ambulance that will bring him back to Italy from Cuba, where he had been hospitalized since August 28th . The former Five Star Movement parliamentarian was on the Caribbean island for a report when he experienced severe headaches , forcing him to undergo an initial medical checkup at Santa Clara Hospital, the closest hospital to where he was located. Given the seriousness of his condition, he was then transferred to the best-equipped facility in Havana, Hermanos Ameijeiras, where he underwent emergency surgery last week.

The return flight, scheduled for tomorrow in Rome, will require a safety protocol dictated by his health: a low-altitude flight to avoid excessive cabin pressurization and one or more stopovers . Upon arrival, Di Battista will likely be transferred directly to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic. A team from the Roman hospital—a neurosurgeon and an intensive care physician—had reached him in Cuba to provide medical care.

Over these two long weeks, there have been numerous expressions of affection and support for Di Battista, who has had his partner Sahra (with whom he has two children) and his friend and president of the Schierarsi association, Luca Di Giuseppe, at his side from the very beginning.

Now, with his return , a second phase of treatment, rehabilitation, and convalescence begins, beginning with a greeting from Luca Di Giuseppe himself: "Have a safe return, my brother. See you in Rome in a few hours." He then extends his thanks "to all the Cuban doctors who cared for Alessandro during these endless days."
