For the first time since 2012, Mississippi carried out a death penalty.

The lethal injection ended the life of David Neal Cox, 50, who had pleaded guilty to murdering his ex-wife and rape of his 12-year-old stepdaughter.

The man, detained in Parchman prison, had renounced all appeals, getting rid of the lawyers and claiming to "deserve the death penalty".

The crime took place in 2010 when he shot Kim Kirk Cox in the town of Sherman.

The stepdaughter, now 23, witnessed the execution.
