An officer was targeted with a knife this morning around 6.30 am in front of a Cannes police station. The attacker, when he took action, said he was acting "in the name of the prophet." He opened the service car door and slashed across the chest.

The person responsible for the gesture was seriously injured by a colleague of the first agent.

According to police sources, “he had an Italian residence permit.” His name is Lakdar B., he was born in 1984 in Algeria and until now was unknown to the police.

The Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, announced on Twitter that he will go to the place where the episode took place and also anticipated that "the trail of terrorism is being evaluated".
