Bashar al Assad is making his voice heard again after fleeing Damascus, which was reconquered by jihadist rebels.

The former Syrian president, in a statement, said that his "evacuation" to Russia was not "premeditated", but was instead requested by Moscow.

Regarding the rebels' takeover , Assad said that Syria is now "in the hands of terrorists."

The former Syrian president also explained that he had "never sought positions for personal gain" and instead considered himself "the guardian of a national project, supported by the faith of the Syrian people."

Assad concluded by announcing that he will soon provide a “detailed account of the events that unfolded,” when time allows.
