Tragic collapse in India, in the city of Morbi, in the western state of Gujarat.

A pedestrian bridge suspended over a river gave way and hundreds of people who were crossing it at the time fell on deaf ears.

The toll of the disaster is dramatic. " So far we have recovered 120 bodies. The number is likely to continue to rise as search operations continue," the city police chief said.

According to local media, the collapsed bridge - 233 meters long and built during the British colonial era - had been reopened to the public a few days after seven months of repairs, despite not being granted safety certificates.

Local authorities have launched an investigation.
