Gold World Championships for Italy on the French snow of Meribel with Marta Bassino who in 1.28.06 won the super-G title on the extremely difficult Col de Roc slope after Federica Brignone had won the combined one on Monday. In short, two competitions and two gold medals for the splendid blue girls: it is difficult to ask for more, without taking into account that the free climb must arrive in which Sofia Goggia - today eleventh with some recriminations - is the favourite.

Silver for the American Mikaela Shiffrin in 1.26.17 and bronze ex aequo in 1.28.39 for the Austrian Cornelia Huetter and the Norwegian Kajsa Lie. For the Piedmontese from Borgo San Dalmazzo, who will turn 27 on 27 February, it was truly an exhilarating but painful race "given what was happening on the complicated track: I was sick seeing that I was taking big gaps at the top".

For Bassino this is the first success in his career in the super G where he had so far obtained two second and two third places in the cup, given that his six victories have all been obtained in giant, his discipline. On paper, therefore, she was the "weakest" of the four blue women in the race who, on the other hand, have all already achieved flattering successes in super-G. But this is also Bassino's second World Championship gold, after the one he won in parallel at Cortina 2021.

With a shy but very strong-willed character, Bassino entered the race "very confident after having seen in the combined super-G test, despite the exit, that this track was for me". So her joy is more than understandable: "I'm very happy, but what anxiety to see all the athletes go down, given that I had lost a lot at the top. I think I did well in the final stretch, and the hug with Shiffrin was very nice , really very nice. I'm happy, although I admit that I have yet to fully realize what happened". It wasn't an exhilarating match instead for the other three blue women in the race. Federica Brignone closed 8/a in 1.28.61 doing the opposite of Marta: fast at the top but with smudges on the ethnic part. Federica has thus decided to concentrate now on next week's giant - her true discipline - giving up on Saturday's downhill race. Sofia Goggia instead finished 11/a in 1.28.82 but lost the result with a lot of philosophy. "I made many small imperfections. But my real competition is the downhill where I'm studying and preparing things properly for Saturday".
