Olympic champion just behind champion Kerley, Barshim wins
On the Italian night at the World Athletics Championships underway in Eugene, Oregon, Filippo Tortu arrives in the semifinal of the 200 meters , running the first round in 20.18 (+1.0), while Fausto Desalu has to surrender with a 20.63 (+0.5) which is not enough to get back on track.
In the absence of De Grasse and the Japanese Koike, who did not line up at the start, Tortu reached the final straight safely, crossing the finish line in 20.18, with a clear margin on the second , Gorra (20.44).
Desalu, on the contrary, runs well for the first 120 meters, but on the straight he gradually ends up extinguishing, first undergoing the comeback for third place by the Ugandan Orogot, and then also ending up losing contact from the front (the Dominican Ogando imposes himself in 20.01). With 20.63 he is eliminated. As expected, the Americans prevailed in the 200 meters.
Nohah Lyles leads the semi-final qualifying row with 19.98 (-0.3), followed by Erryon Knighton (20.01). Fred Kerley, world champion of the 100, marks a final 20.17 (+0.4). KADDARI - The Quartese Dalia Kaddari ran the women's 200 meters finishing in third place with a time of 22.75. The Sardinian athlete has completed his task in the best possible way, obtaining promotion to tomorrow's semifinal, scheduled for 3:05 Italian time. In first place the Jamaican Shericka Jackson, with 22.33.
TAMBERI - Gianmarco Tamberi wins fourth place in the high jump stopping at 2.35 after having jumped 2.33 at the second attempt . The Olympic champion athlete from Marche easily passed the first tests, with the bar at 2.19, 2.24 and 2.27. At 2.30 he misses the target twice, but on the third he makes it, on the second attempt he even exceeds 2.33, despite his not perfect physical condition.
The medal went to the Qatari Olympic champion Mutaz Essa Barshim , who failed the attempt at 2.42 and gave up, still being first after an almost error-free test. Silver goes to South Korea with Woo not exceeding 2.39. Third place for the Ukrainian Protsenko with 2.33 at the first attempt, fourth in fact Tamberi who exceeds 2.33 at the second attempt. Always friends, a warm hug at the end of the match between the Italian and the Qatari.
