"Many know Carloforte as an island paradise, and I believe this area is at a dramatic crossroads: should it remain a paradise or become an industrial zone serving the interests of a few at the expense of the community's identity?" Journalist Mauro Pili, called upon to give his opinion by the committees and citizens who in Carloforte, as in other parts of Sardinia, are fighting against the invasion of wind energy, didn't mince his words.
The project
An invasion that on the island of San Pietro and in the towns overlooking the Iglesiente sea, from Portoscuso to Buggerru, seems to be getting closer every day: "We're talking about the offshore wind farm that Ichnusa Wind Power Srl, a company backed by Eni, wants to build less than 40 kilometers from these coasts," Pili said. "42 floating turbines that will have a maximum height of almost 350 meters above the water level on a seabed of about 800 meters. A huge floating facility, stretching dozens of kilometers off the coast." News broke in recent days that the Ministry of the Environment (MASE) had issued its opinion on the offshore farm, and now the Ministry of Culture's opinion is awaited: "The opinion is classified," he emphasized, "but everyone at MASE knows it's in favor. How can we remain silent? I think the time has come to organize a protest to ensure that the government itself makes a statement." Carloforte can become the national symbol of a rebel community."
