Like every year, in December, Google announced the most searches made by Italians on its search engine.

A series of useful lists to provide interesting insights into Italian society, the tastes of users and the curiosities that tickle the inhabitants of the Bel Paese.

Below are the "rankings", divided by theme.

CHARACTERS – The award for the most searched character in Italy on Google during 2023 goes to Jannik Sinner, the young Italian tennis champion who led Italy to its second, historic victory in the Davis Cup. Following, in order: Romelu Lukaku, Peppino di Capri, Shakira,

Marta Fascina.

SINGERS – Here are the top 5 most searched for in the “Singers” category: Rosa Chemical, Fedez, Marco Mengoni, Anna Oxa and Lazza.

THE FAREWELLS – There was also a lot of research on the farewells of well-known people who passed away during 2023. The most searched for were, in order: Maurizio Costanzo, Silvio Berlusconi, Matteo Messina Denaro, Toto Cutugno and Gianluca Vialli.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN? – Among the topics on which Italians have most often searched for information on the search engine in the last 12 months by asking “What does it mean?” stand out: National Mourning (in first place), followed by Transgender, Implosion, Apayinye and Noos.

WHAT IS IT – Another popular question is “What is it?”. The five most searched words in this "category" were: Hamas, Abdominal diastasis, Kibbutz, 41 bis and Codacons.

WHY – And then the whys. In order: The war in Israel and Gaza, Iacchetti hosts from home, Ferragosto is celebrated, Fazio leaves Rai, Edoardo has been disqualified.

RECIPES – Finally, the top 5 of the most searched recipes of 2023:

Lentils, Bigoli, Scammaro, Pumpkin gnocchi without potatoes and Valdostana.
