Summer 2024 sees Cagliaritans ready to leave for holidays, with a predilection for cultural trips and a strong motivation to visit friends and relatives. According to recent research by Changes Unipol, prepared by Ipsos, almost one in two citizens prefers cultural holidays, with a significant percentage choosing to travel by plane and pay by credit card. A trend that clearly differentiates Cagliari from the rest of Italy.

Three out of four Cagliaritans (71%) have planned at least one holiday in summer 2024, while 18% are still undecided and only 11% say they will not travel. The main reasons for those who will not leave are family difficulties (35%), economic problems (29%) and lack of vacation days (26%).

Among those who will leave, 50% will opt for a short holiday (up to 3 nights), 42% for a medium-long duration (between 4 and 13 nights) and only 15% for stays longer than 13 nights.

The capital's citizens prefer Europe, with 27% will travel to the continent (compared to a national average of 19%), while 55% will remain in Italy and 9% will go outside Europe. Cultural holidays, which include visits to cities, villages and archaeological areas, are the main choice for 48% of Cagliaritans, followed by holidays at the seaside (35%) and in the mountains (13%).

Unlike the national average, in Cagliari the main reason for going on holiday is to visit friends and relatives (24% versus 15%). Other factors include the presence of buildings and monuments (17%), nature and landscape (15%) and participation in events or festivals (5%).

In short, the people of Cagliari stand out from the rest of the country for their travel choices, which favor culture and family ties, confirming a unique trend compared to the rest of Italy. The desire to explore and connect with one's roots remains at the heart of the summer holidays of the inhabitants of Cagliari.
