After the defeat against the European champions Great Britain, Italy Under 23 immediately returns to success: 101-20 over South Africa. Third victory in four games for coach Castellucci's Azzurri who are looking for second place in the group at the Youth World Championships taking place in Brazil.
A one-sided match, as expected, against South Africa, the bottom of the group. Excellent performance by Cristiano Uras from Sassari, playing for Dinamo Lab, who, starting from the bench, scored 26 points with just 13 shots.
“I had asked for concentration, especially in defense, and I am satisfied with how the team approached this match that we knew was within reach,” commented coach Castellucci; “Now we have a challenge that is not a foregone conclusion with Japan to achieve the first objective of this World Cup, that is, second place in the group. Then we will see the pairing in the quarterfinals, which certainly will not be easy. But let's proceed one step at a time and now let's think about tomorrow.”
Italy scoresheet: Sbuelz 28, Uras 26, Topo 12, Bobbato 8, Balsamo 8, Da Silva Pelizari 5, Tomaselli 4, Canella 4, Oujedid 4, Marotta, Ciciou.
