Italy beat Argentina 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-22) and qualify for the quarterfinals of the Volleyball World Championship, currently underway in Manila.
"We're fired up against big opponents, and from now on, our opponents will be stronger and stronger," commented Yuri Romanò: "We played with the right attitude, from the first point to the last," he added to RaiSport. "Today we were perfect."
Now Italy awaits their quarterfinal opponent, Finland or Belgium. "We have to say it's the same thing, but playing Belgium for a rematch wouldn't be bad..."
"We're finally happy with how we played," said Alessandro Michieletto. "We started a bit slow, we were nervous. We were down the entire first set, but we came out at the right time and won it. It's something that's never happened to us before in this tournament." Captain Simone Giannelli said, "We knew Argentina was a tough opponent. He's been playing volleyball for years and knows how to approach these matches. We did a good job of holding on point after point. I enjoy these matches, we have fun."
