Join the forces of the archeology enthusiasts of Sarrabus and Gerrei (but also of Sinnai and Maracalagonis) to get the nuraghi tourism off the ground once and for all. Forty people did it yesterday in Villa Rei (Castiadas), rolling up their sleeves in front of one of the most evocative nuraghe overlooking a hill facing the sea of Costa Rei, the nuraghe Sa Domu and S'Orcu. The volunteers, representing four associations and under the supervision of the archaeologist Stefano Crispu, have cleaned up the eastern part of the site and laid the foundations to make it open for visits from next season. «Castiadas - says Davide Contu, president of the Nuraghi Tours association - is known above all for seaside tourism. Our intent is to focus attention also on the vast and unknown archaeological and cultural heritage ».

At work

A challenge to be won thanks to young people: "We want to do - underlines Danilo Melis, 21, president of the Limen Sarrabus Gerrei association - and to rediscover the identity linked to our territory". For Martino Zedda of the Archeo Sarrabus association, «Sa Domu e S'Orcu is a site that in terms of importance and location could represent a symbolic place for the whole of Sarrabus. If we do not intervene, given the neglect of the last few centuries, soon there will be nothing left. We need to do something to make a mark on future generations. We, in some way, have laid the first stone ».

The recovery

The forty volunteers yesterday morning, despite the rain, did not spare themselves. Armed with bags, gloves and shears, they collected abandoned waste and studied the next steps to be taken to make the site accessible. "These activities - said the archaeologist Stefano Crispu - have the merit of sensitizing the community to the care of the public good".

Marco Melis, Castiadese resident in Rome and president of the association "Primitive Path of Sarrabus", returned to the village only to take part in the rediscovery day of Sa Domu de S'Orcu "because love for the territory helps us to build an identity on which to base our daily actions ».

The common

The mayor of Castiadas Eugenio Murgioni speaks of "the first stage of an archaeological enhancement process wanted by the municipal council" and underlines the joint action between public and private institutions: "Sa Domu de S'Orcu - he says - can become a center of attraction tourist twelve months a year, one of the wonders of Sardinian archeology. Thanks to the many young people present ».
