Bringing people back into a physical space, where dialogue replaces the algorithm: the new independent festival " Sottosuono ," dedicated to underground music and culture, will debut on February 28th at Campidarte in Ussana . Promoted by the associations Void , Asarp , and Brebus with the support of the Fondazione Sardegna , the first edition is subtitled " Prisons, Music, and Art as Escapes ," reflecting on spaces of imprisonment even beyond bars, through workshops , meetings , concerts , and DJ sets , weighing collective responsibilities and possible alternatives.
In the belief that underground communities are the last spaces where languages, sounds, and new perspectives can be authentically generated, "Sottosuono" looks to music as an indispensable link for building critical and productive exchanges, not only on art and creative practices, but also on issues that today more than ever – given the controversial problems of Sardinia as a "prison island" – fill our lives .
The program for Saturday 28th
The doors of the farmhouse club will open at 3:00 PM , welcoming the first visitors with free workshops on photography, publishing, and music. The heart of the event will be the talks at 5:00 PM . It will begin with a roundtable discussion on detention in Italy and on the island, mental health, and recovery, featuring speakers from Irene Testa , the regional ombudsman for prisoners ; Vito D'Anza , psychiatrist; Alessandro Montisci , spokesperson for Asarp; the Futura Tech Music team; and the Elan social cooperative. The closing discussion will be a discussion between psychotherapist and artist Moreno Murgia and rapper Matteo Gorelli (aka Mamma), on music as a tool for social prevention and, above all, inclusion.
At 7 pm , music takes center stage, with a lineup that includes poetry, electronica, post-rock, rap, and experimental music. Kicking off the evening is Caralis Poetry Slam , a Cagliari-based performance poetry collective, who will offer a reflection on prisons, featuring veteran performer Daniele Valenti , aka " Gnigne ." From words, the event will move to music, with the lo-fi, ethereal, and multimedia electronica of Control Z , followed by the mathematical, cinematic, and raw post-rock of Fөrms , and the verbose, arrhythmic, and moving hip hop of Mamma , whose life experience dramatically resonates with the evening's theme.
And this is precisely what makes him the most suitable voice for the stage, before giving way to the Italian-German Emma : part of the new global wave of hyperpop , the young artist mixes grunge, electronic hardcore, indie, pop punk, and glitch music in a style typical of the recent avant-garde movements of 2Hollis and Jane Remover, and which has already set highly attended alternative music festivals across the peninsula, such as Mi Ami and Poplar . To conclude an evening already packed with music and art, the musical selections curated by Mudra , Alo Cocco , and Irregular Alpha continued until late at night.
