"It's madness." Two days ago, Union Berlin announced the appointment of Marie-Louise Eta, the first female coach in Europe's top five leagues, and now the German club condemns the sexist insults directed at her on social media.

“It’s simply embarrassing: we saw it, but I refuse to read or even expose myself to this kind of nonsense, because for me with ETA it’s about quality and leadership ,” said the club’s technical director, Horst Heldt, as reported by BBC Online.

"We have complete faith in Louise, an absolute belief," Heldt added. "I find it absurd that we have to deal with a situation like this today. You can be sure that everyone here at Union, both among the fans and within the club, supports this decision 100% and will do everything possible to avoid further discussions in the future."

Today Eta will lead his first training session at Union Berlin.
