Eighty out of a hundred tourists visit a small portion of Sardinia, equal to only ten per cent of the area facing the sea.

This was established by a Report by Eager Analytics , a technology company based in Sassari, which analyzes the behavior of travelers on the island and which is based on a sample of 170,000 users and more than 35 million data points and aggregates collected in the last three years .

It follows that Sardinia is in some ways an island unexplored by tourism if only twenty percent of visitors decide to go beyond that small portion of the territory which represents ten percent .

The data for the current year, collected by Eager with the HoS Heart of Sardinia tourist app, show that the mass of tourism is gathered on an area of 3,005 square km out of the 24,090 of the entire island.
Carlo Gaspa, CEO of Eager, explains: «The tourist load is concentrated above all on the coasts and in the north-east of the island in an area that is almost equivalent to the extension of the Province of Oristano alone».

Yet demand has grown by 26% but the destinations remain the same and see Olbia, Cagliari and Alghero at the top of the rankings.

With some differences: Olbia has a strong seasonality, from June to August, while Cagliari and Alghero register a lower tourist presence in absolute values but diluted between spring and autumn. Cagliari is the destination that has grown the most in the months of January and April. The ranking of the most popular destinations includes Stintino, La Maddalena, Dorgali, Orosei, Arzachena, Baunei and Siniscola. Among the emerging destinations, not present in the top 10, Villasimius stands out with an increase of 19%, Castiadas (18%) and Domus de Maria (18); Muravera, Sant'Antioco and Pula follow.

«Some trends that emerged in the post-pandemic period are confirmed - says Carlo Gaspa - people move more in the regional context, (+17% on 2021); growing interest in cultural trips to Barumini, Tharros, Nora, Santa Cristina» and in the natural parks , Porto Conte, Asinara and Tavolara.
The closed number works very well : some of the places that have adopted the reservation system have not only had an increase in internal demand but have favored the growth of the entire surrounding area. This is the case of Cala Goloritzè where controlled management has allowed the growth of alternative destinations such as Cala Mariolu and Cala Sisine.
