The unstable weather and general uncertainty on the economic front do not seem to have discouraged Italians for the long Easter weekend and the long weekends of April 25 and May 1. There are a total of 21 million Italians traveling, for a total of over 27 million departures considering those who have taken advantage of the various combinations offered by the calendar up to May 4. Vacationers who, by force of circumstance, will have to pay attention to the weather forecast: after the strong wave of bad weather in recent days, with the flooding of the Po still causing concern, the forecasts predict an Italy divided in two, with new rains and cold in the North and milder temperatures albeit with variable weather in the South.
Italians, however, will travel for mainly short-medium term vacations. Hotels and B&Bs are the preferred accommodation facilities, although some will opt to stay in second homes or in the homes of friends and relatives. The long Easter weekend, according to a survey conducted by Cna Turismo e Commercio, will generate a turnover of over 9 billion euros.
Italy remains a privileged destination for foreign tourists with over 15.8 million total visitors (+2.4%). The number of French, Swiss, Polish, Dutch and Spanish tourists is increasing, but the percentage of Germans, Brazilians, Scandinavians, Austrians and Hungarians remains high. US and Canadian citizens confirm their love for Italy, while bookings from tourists from Asia are decreasing: Indians, Koreans, Chinese and Japanese.
Total spending for the holidays will reach 1.5 billion euros, an increase of 120 million compared to 2024 (+8%), but this purely nominal increase is an optical illusion created by the inflation effect for which real consumption will fall: fewer products will be purchased at a higher price.
