«Sardinian airports, real gateways to the island, all designed and built in the coastal area, are terminals of a devastated and, in fact, non-existent internal transport system». On the subject for days at the center of the political debate, that of the unitary administration of the island's airports, Francesca Ghirra (deputy of the Progressives) returns to point the finger who, in a note signed together with Francesco Agus (leader of the Progressives group in the Regional Council), speaks of the wide critical issues that are recorded at the level of transport.

" Sardinia is crossed by a dilapidated national road network - they write -, think of the 131, permanently interrupted and diverted due to the presence of endless upgrading works , which condemn it to be an artery with a high risk of accidents and a low travel speed . The Sassari-Olbia (SS 729), under construction for decades , classified as a main extra-urban road – if completed, it will be passable at a maximum speed of 110 km/h. All planned interventions are at a standstill, despite works worth over one billion euros are under the commissioner of President Solinas, who does everything except look after the interests of the Sardinians. The provincial road system is abandoned , devoid of systematic maintenance (the provinces have been mortified by pseudo reforms and deprived of the necessary tools and resources) for very long stretches that can be traveled at 30 km per hour because the roads are completely uneven and unsafe . Inadequate railways , in terms of frequencies and speeds, non-existent in the inland areas, which have canceled Nuoro and the populations of the entire province from the geography of connections».

Ghirra and Agus also underline the problem of air and sea connections, an issue that without a "modern and efficient organization of the internal transport system" will continue in the wake of " intolerable discrimination of entire communities, of those who live in the internal areas of the island or away from the airports, and many Sardinians will still be illegitimately deprived of the right to the free movement of people and goods in the European context , recognized by the Constitution and by the EU treaties".

In conclusion, it is "difficult to think that the unitary administration of the management companies, as far as it can improve the levels of efficiency of the same, is capable, apart from an overall public policy that deals with the rights of the Sardinian community from the point of view, to guarantee the development, strengthening and organization of the entire transport system in Sardinia. The Region has a duty to demand independent verification of share values, a leap in the efficiency of services, an active role in transparent management and guarantees of sustainable access to services for people and businesses".
