A car journey through time. From Cagliari to Pula (and vice versa). On the map there is only one road, for everyone the “195” or Sulcitana . In reality a sequence of carriageways of different types , which date back to different eras and are the responsibility of different bodies . There is Anas, but Cacip is also responsible. A stretch, on the Cagliari side, with four lanes with a central reservation, is decades old . But there is also traffic on a part, along the Giorgino beach, which has only two lanes, one for each direction of travel: squeezed between the sea and the lagoon, the strip of asphalt risks being swallowed up by the water . To remedy the situation, a reef will be built on the coast with boulders weighing up to three tons each. A stopgap solution while waiting for the approval of the project for the “northern section” of the state road, for which we will not have to wait long, but biblical times.

Shorter ones for the opening of the last bit of the section inaugurated at the beginning of September, which from Capoterra – Sp 91 – arrives up to the connection with the Consortile Cacip upstream of Sarroch. From here there is asphalt again with humps, a ridge that comes down with every downpour and dark tunnels. The journey continues up to the reconnection with the “new section”, which reaches Pula. Not before having narrowed for about a kilometer, up to the old, very old 195, which from here on – in Teulada – will remain as it is.

But the problems on Sardinian roads are certainly not over. Among the nightmares of motorists is also the “ 554 ” which, with its 14 kilometers and 6 traffic lights, records an average of at least three accidents per month (excluding those that are not reported). For this stretch, the Anas plan envisaged spending hundreds of millions to replace the lights at intersections with the same number of roundabouts , in order to reduce travel times. But for now that project has not taken off, just like the dream of joining the route of the old 554 to the new state road, the one that comes from Terra Mala and ends more or less in nothing, in an unspecified place between Maracalagonis and the countryside of Quartu. The project has been bogged down since 2021, «after the Municipality of Maracalagonis expressed a negative opinion during the Environmental Impact Assessment», summarizes the Councilor for Public Works Antonio Piu . But the revolution is still far away: «I will soon call together all the mayors involved to explain and share what we intend to do with the 80 million available ».

However, there is good news from Nuraminis: the reopening of the 131 is scheduled for Tuesday .
