They dreamed of a creative job that would bring prestige to their small town. And that desire, with effort, sacrifices and a lot of commitment, was realized. The Giagu laboratory , in the heart of Pattada , is today the pride of the spouses Salvatore Giagu and Maria Rosaria Deroma and every day they "sign" Pattadesi knives - typical of the Sardinian tradition - registered models and kitchen knives.

It all started in 1985, after a period of training in an old blacksmith's shop and the subsequent decision to specialize in the exclusive production of precious tools. The couple's commitment was combined with the trust of two of their four children: Adriano and Letizia, who today carry on - together with their parents - what they created almost 40 years ago .

The techniques used are those of tradition , the materials always of the highest quality : enough to have made these creations true masterpieces, requested all over the world, for which there are also waiting lists (depending on the models). of years. «The times for creating a simple model are around two days but it all depends on what the customer wants – explains Salvatore -. We have buyers from all over the world, there are periods where the work pace is more intense, others where it is more relaxed. But we never stop."

Another family idea is also added to the laboratory: the birth of the first international knife museum, which collects models from the most renowned artisans and which every year attracts tourists from all over the world. The complete story of the project in the tenth episode of Mani di Sardegna, the format of Unionesarda.it which involves the most interesting and innovative artisan realities of the island.
