The Giro della Sardegna concludes today in Olbia, and the caravan is already talking about future editions.
The impressions among the runners and teams are extremely positive, but everyone agrees that the race must be run consistently to grow. In other words, the Region—which supported it this year with the two million euros allocated by the Department of Tourism—needs to reaffirm its commitment. From Nuoro, her hometown, President Alessandra Todde attended the team presentation ceremony and the start, congratulating young Ignazio Cireddu , the runner from San Vito who is also the only Sardinian in the race.
"The goal will be to give continuity to the Giro with all our strength," he assures, "because as I've already said, cycling is a popular sport; everyone can watch it, support the cyclists, and participate. It's great that Sardinia is once again a protagonist."
The live TV broadcast is showcasing the island's landscapes to the general public: "The president of the Cycling League, Roberto Pella , told me that during yesterday's stage , 45 million people saw the postcards from Sardinia : this is the real promotion we deserve." He then admits: "I was moved by seeing the riders, seeing the finish lines, and above all, recognizing the various areas of Sardinia in the images. My nephew, who lives in Uruguay and is a cycling enthusiast like the rest of his family, wrote to me to say he had seen Sardinia on TV."
Ignazio Cireddu represented the island, even on live TV thanks to Friday's long breakaway: "I think it's also a way for our young cyclists to see that they're supported. Even at home. I was talking to Fabio Aru , who was and still is a great champion, and I think being recognized and appreciated at home is a wonderful thing."
