Only opposition voices were heard in the Regional Council on the first day dedicated to examining the text of the budget, costing approximately €2 billion. We are at Article One, which, net of amendments, allocates approximately €1 billion for healthcare and social policies. This morning, the Budget Committee concluded with a call for the withdrawal of all amendments, except the €250 proposed by the Regional Council.
The session in the Chamber began two hours late. "We need a full-time councilor," was the request from all the center-right councilors who spoke during the general discussion of Article 1. At the end of the debate, the president and interim councilor Alessandra Todde responded: "I will continue as long as necessary."
Minority speaker Fausto Piga (FdI) spoke of "financial mismanagement in the sector: it's spending more and more poorly. At this rate, Sardinian healthcare will suffer the same fate as the super bonus." By now, he added, "we've come to miss Bartolazzi. At least he's not part-time like President Todde. Let's hope the majority reaches an agreement sooner or later to choose a councilor."
Another recurring criticism in the minority's comments: "Article 1 doesn't address the real problems; you don't even mention the shortage of doctors," said Giuseppe Talanas (FI). For Umberto Ticca (Reformers) , "reading the article, one doesn't see any prospect of change." According to Stefano Tunis, "it's disappointing not to see a comprehensive plan and structure."
In conclusion, Alessandra Todde responded point by point, defending her actions and describing the budget change, which "comes after many measures and resolutions by the Council." She specifically highlighted the measures regarding the hiring of 500 doctors and 1,000 nurses.
"Being president isn't easy, and the responsibility for healthcare is a huge burden," she replied when asked who actually serves as health councilor. "I can count on a team of professionals working together to improve Sardinia's healthcare system, and I will continue to work with them as long as necessary. Results must come, even if they aren't immediate. What's important to know is that there's total dedication."
