An announced visit, as were the objectives. The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Edoardo Rixi , arrives on the Island today to launch the Port Plan, with a focus on the Cagliari port. Rixi will also meet with Governor Alessandra Todde to discuss the appointment to the Adsp, the Authority that manages the island's maritime ports, a position that is about to become vacant after the two terms of the outgoing president Massimo Deiana .
In an interview given today to L'Unione Sarda , the deputy minister explained that « Sardinia has what it takes to become a reference hub , capable of seizing the opportunities that new markets offer. In Cagliari we have allocated 240 million euros between PNRR funds and MIT funds, which are added to those already invested by the Port Authority. The port reform that we are preparing is in the same direction: it plans to establish a publicly controlled structure capable of better coordinating investments, enhancing the specificities of the maritime ports».
For the Cagliari maritime port, therefore , a relaunch is taking shape after "the difficult phase experienced, with the collapse of the container sector due to the disengagement of the terminal operator from the Porto Canale in 2019. Traffic fell by 98%, so much so that the concession was revoked. Since 2023, there have been concrete signs of recovery - Rixi underlined -. Container traffic on feeder ships has almost doubled and passenger traffic has also continued to grow, reaching a new record. After a period in which the port seemed to be on the sidelines, today it has returned to being a protagonist and is demonstrating that it can do its part".
On the Adsp, the deputy minister said: «I have chosen a path of sharing the nominations of the presidents with all the territories . The visits to the fourteen Port Authorities involved are aimed precisely at an accurate assessment of the situation of each, in order to arrive at considered decisions». Rixi will hold a press briefing in the offices of Molo Ichnusa in Cagliari, from 18:15.
