A memorandum of understanding was signed in Santa Giusta by the presidents of Fai Sardegna and Sardegna Isola del Romanico in order to plan and organize joint initiatives to promote the historical, cultural and landscape heritage of the Romanesque present on the island.

There are over 150 sites, largely accessible: churches, abbeys, monasteries, castles, Giudicati palaces, will be enhanced with the agreement signed by the presidents of the two realities, Monica Scanu and Antonello Figus.

The FAI territorial network counts on seven presidia in Cagliari, Oristano, Nuoro, Ogliastra, Sassari, La Maddalena and Olbia-Tempio Pausania, the Sardinia Isola del Romanico Foundation has over 70 municipalities among its members.

"A journey through history, religion, art and architecture", explains Figus who lists some of the most representative sites: Santissima Trinità di Saccargia in Codrongianos , San Gavino in Porto Torres , the basilica of Our Lady of the Kingdom of Ardara , San Pietro di Sorres in Borutta "where the monks - he says - prepare ancient recipes of herbal and country based ointments and syrups".

And then there is the monumental church of Santa Giusta, a former cathedral, "the only one in Sardinia with the crypt built together with the church".

At the foot of the Quirra Castle there is the small church of San Nicola di Quirra, a few kilometers from Villaputzu . And the church of San Pietro di Zuri, in the municipality of Ghilarza : "Disassembled stone by stone, it was moved to the upper part to avoid being submerged by the waters of the Tirso", reveals the expert.

"The monks - underlines Monica Scanu - have left their mark and brought culture and agricultural technologies of crops to Sardinia which later became the strengths of the territories".
