The Stintino Tonnara Museum will become the center of an important international debate with GenS Gender Studies Week 2025, titled "Women's Rights are Human Rights! Gender and Society Thirty Years After Beijing." The event, organized from September 1st to 5th by AIS Politica (Italian Association of Sociology – Political Section), ISA RC26 (International Sociological Association – Sociotechnics, Sociological Practice), and ESA RN32 (European Sociological Association – Political Sociology Research Network), will feature university professors, researchers, policy makers, and activists from around the world. The conference aims to address, with a multidisciplinary and comparative approach, the major issues characterizing contemporary societies: gender-based violence and social justice; workplace inequalities and political representation; health, inclusion and migration; LGBTQIA+ rights and cultural diversity; and media representations and gender language.
Thirty years after the 1995 Beijing World Conference on Women, GenS Gender Studies Week aims to take stock of the progress made and the challenges that remain , connecting theoretical reflection, empirical research, and policy proposals. This event is also made possible thanks to the support of the Municipality of Stintino, which has demonstrated a genuine sensitivity in promoting public debate on issues crucial to cultural and social growth. "Opening Stintino's doors to a global debate on rights and equality means investing in the cultural and social future of our region," states the municipal administration.
The choice of the Stintino Tonnara Museum as the conference venue combines tradition and innovation. The Museum, a reference point for the local community's historical and cultural memory, also becomes a venue for international scientific and political development. This context perfectly represents the intersection of the region's riches and its openness to the world. Over the course of the five days, the program includes plenary sessions, thematic panels, international research presentations, and opportunities for open discussion . Speakers include prominent figures from Italian and European universities, along with experts from Latin America, Asia, and Africa, ensuring a truly global perspective.
