The Special Economic Zone of Sardinia becomes a reality, the only unfinished of the 8 planned for southern Italy.

“The signature of the extraordinary commissioner Aldo Cadau - writes the Region in a note - launches one of the most important measures to support the Sardinian production system, fully operational since Friday.

The identified areas will now be able to seize the growth opportunities inherent in the Zes tool, with the benefits induced by the development policy (tax credit, digital single counter, simplification of the governance system aimed at favoring the construction of the interventions quickly as well as establishment of new businesses) and combining economic growth with the social and urban growth of the areas involved.

"Today Sardinia reaches a very important milestone - comments the president of the Region, Christian Solinas - together with all the other tools put in place by the Region to stem the crisis and support the recovery, today we can really plan the relaunch of the Sardinian economy with one a confident look to the future, ensuring the production system that facilitated taxation that has been expected for decades which can be the real engine of the economic recovery of our island ".

The consultations between the regional administration and the government at the end of 2018 had identified eight areas suitable for hosting new and old settlements for a total of 2,770 hectares. The area at Casic in Cagliari will extend for 1,628 hectares, while that in Portovesme (110 hectares) will also involve the large plants of Alcoa and Sider Alloys.

The map is completed by the complex in the north-east around Olbia and Buddusò (180 hectares), those of Porto Torres, Sassari and Alghero (500 hectares), Oristano (219 hectares) and Ogliastra (56 hectares).
