Bills down 12.9% in October, at least in the protected market .

After months of increases comes a first decline: the Arera , the energy authority, has decided that methane consumption will cost 12.9% less than the tariffs of the third quarter of 2022.

"On the basis of the new calculation method introduced in July by Arera, the component of the gas price to cover supply costs, applied to customers still under protection, is updated as a monthly average of the price on the Italian wholesale market and published by the first 2 working days of the month following the reference month. For the month of October, the price of the gas raw material, for customers with contracts under protection conditions, is therefore set at 78.05 euros / MWh, equal to the average of the prices recorded daily during the entire month just ended ", reads in the press release.

On the other hand, the price of gas has drastically decreased in recent months, especially in October. Last month the average price traded in Italy, with daily delivery, had an average of 80.7 euro / MWh, against an average of 232.658 in August and 187.17 in September .

“Let's not let our guard down. The cost of gas for October recorded a drop compared to the previous quarter - explains Stefano Besseghini, president of Arera - but the percentages must not be misleading. The values remain very high compared to the past and, if it is true that they had a modest impact for families in the summer period, they will determine more demanding bills with the increase in consumption in the winter season , with prices that are expected to rise due to the greater demand. of the cold months. The invitation therefore remains to pay attention to savings and energy efficiency ".

Also because the figure remains - recalled by Arera itself - of gas expenditure for the typical family, which is approximately 1,702 euros, increased by 67% between 1 November 2021 and 31 October 2022 compared to the previous 12 months .
