With “Story of a Tree” and “Like a Leaf,” which will accompany the program throughout August and conclude on September 24, the Organica Museum of Environmental Art is entering the heart of its summer calendar.
Starting Sunday, the green setting of the Curadureddu Forest is ready to reopen its doors to the public, starting at 11 a.m. from the Spazio Cedap, with the opening of the solo exhibition by the Flatform collective, curated by Giannella Demuro and Marco Senaldi, and—for the first time ever—the works of visual artist Toni Demuro, collected in a solo exhibition curated by Emiliano Longobardi.
In “Story of a Tree,” through the sophisticated use of audiovisual technologies , the Flatform collective, founded in 2006, pursues a reflection on landscape and natural phenomena, often located in peripheral or marginal territories, themes that are more relevant today than ever. The tree at the center of the work is an oak tree that grew approximately 900 years ago—also known as the “Oak of a Hundred Knights”—and the setting is the area around the city of Tricase, in Puglia. Subtitled in English, the film features dialogue in Arbaresh, Romanesque, Griku, Byzantine Greek, Hebrew, Yiddish, Turkish, Spanish, French, and Salento, and all the previously unreleased music was recorded specifically for the film.
In the ground-floor room of the Spazio CEDAP , the Organica Museum is hosting its first exhibition dedicated to illustration, "Like a Leaf," a solo show by artist Toni Demuro. His images depict a dreamlike universe of stylized forms, a rarefied world populated by natural organisms—trees, branches, leaves, flowers, butterflies, and solitary humans—illuminated by pale lights or illuminated by opalescent nighttime glows. Born in Sardinia in 1974, Demuro is an Italian illustrator and visual artist.
Graduated in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sassari , he developed a poetic and minimalist style, known for its dreamlike atmosphere, symbolic use of nature and a refined chromatic palette.
His illustrations have accompanied editorial projects for major international clients such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Penguin Books, Vanity Fair, Corriere della Sera and Mondadori, and have featured on book covers and illustrated albums—especially for the French market—and have won numerous awards.
