The 2023 Nobel Prize for Literature goes to Norwegian writer Jon Fosse.

Fosse, we read in the motivations of the Swedish Academy, «receives the prize for his innovative theatrical works and for prose that give voice to the unspeakable».

According to the jury, the Scandinavian writer «is today one of the most represented playwrights in the world and is increasingly recognized for his prose. The human condition is the central theme of his work."

Born in Haugesund in 1959, a multifaceted intellectual, he made his writing debut in 1983 with the novel Raudt, svart ("Red, black"), later experimenting with short fiction, poetry, non-fiction and children's literature.

Author of the powerful diptych on the Norwegian painter L. Hertervig Melancholia (1995-96; Italian trans. 2009) and of intense dramas such as "Natta syng sine songar” (1998; Italian trans. E la notte canta, 2002) and “Eg er vinden” (2007; Italian trad. Io sono il vento, 2012), among his most recent works published in Italy are “Morgon og kveld” (2000; Italian trad. “Mattino e sera”, 2019) and “Det andre namnet: septologien I-II” (2019; Italian transl. “The other name: septology I-II”, 2021).
