For 151 years the most spectacular Italian mask festival, the Carnival of Viareggio, has winked at the Summer Carnival of Porto Torres, an event which hosts on the eve of the Turritana parade a delegation made up of four people, who have come specifically from the Tuscan city to witness the artistic and organizational skills of the event. In the route that winds along the Balai seafront to the center, two symbolic masks of the Viareggio Carnival will also participate, Burlamacco and Ondina, worn by Alessandro and Gaia, two young guests together with David Zappelli, group leader of the civic majority that governs the Tuscan municipality and Andrea Mazzi, representative of the Viareggio Carnival Foundation, the body that organizes the event. They were welcomed by the president of the city council, Franco Satta, in the council room together with the president of the Pro Loco, Anna Maria Zara and some members who collaborate in the success of the parade, scheduled for tomorrow evening, Saturday 3 August, in Porto Torres. Also present were city councilors Antonello Cabitta and Gavino Ruiu.
«It is an honor for us to be here to represent our masks. The city of Viareggio and Sardinia have a bond made up of painful moments - explains David Zappelli - but also of fun such as the carnival, which will have the opportunity to associate our municipality with that of Porto Torres". For Andrea Mazzi «carnival unites like a large family, united by the values of art, culture, entertainment and sharing. Every time an event of this type starts again, this Italian heritage is enriched. Thus - he adds - we bring not only our presence but also a greeting to all those people who participate in these events, because behind these initiatives there is a lot of participation and creativity". The day for guests ended with a visit to the Antiquiarium Turritano museum.
