After the forced stop due to Covid, the Mamutzones antigos of Samugheo, on February 20, will once again be among the protagonists who will enliven the scene in Piazza San Marco in Venice on the occasion of the prestigious appointment with the carnival.

A journey that began years ago thanks to a project by Unpli, the national Pro loco d'Italia union, which participates in the event capable of attracting tourists from all over the world to Venice. The first year the stage was open to six regions, for some years Sardinia has been indicated as a regular guest region. In 2020, the very day the Samughe group was supposed to perform, the lockdown went off. Now we start again with renewed grit.

«The importance of this event for us is given by the fact that we are going to represent our country and Sardinia and we are really proud of it», says the group leader of the Mamutzones Gianni Mura. A representation of the municipal administration will also be present with the group of the ancient mask. Mayor Basilio Patta explains: «It is an invitation that has been postponed since the Covid period. For us it is a great satisfaction to have been invited as a group and as a country to the Venice carnival. This fact confirms how important the Samugheo mask has become. We are confident that this participation can also be extended to other carnivals».
