A few days ago we were able to witness the first official teaser of "The Last of Us 2", the sequel to the HBO television series based on the video game of the same name for the Playstation console, now recognized as one of the most important and popular titles from the Sony company.
From the joint work of Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, an unprecedented gaming experience was born , which by combining horror atmospheres with an evocative post-apocalyptic setting was able to further narrow the margin of distance between cinema and video games. The adaptation released last year, starring the international star Pedro Pascal and the young Bella Ramsey, garnered nominations at the latest editions of the Emmy Awards and the Golden Globes , receiving universal acclaim from specialized critics especially for its respect for original work and for the scenic understanding between the two actors.
The credit for these results also goes to the work done by Craig Mazin, screenwriter and co-creator of the show also remembered for the exceptional miniseries "Chernobyl".
Expected on the small screen in 2025, the second season will follow the events of the video game "The Last of Us - Part II" , introducing new characters and even more surprising developments than those seen in the past. From the new video we discover for the first time the actress Kaitlyn Dever in the role of Abby Anderson, attracting the attention of fans for the crucial role she will play in the next episodes. The character of Catherine O'Hara is also finally shown, which according to Entertainment Weekly sources may not belong to the video game and may have been conceived specifically for the TV series.
In the last frames we can also glimpse the Hollywood star Jeffrey Wright impersonating Isaac , the respected leader of the Liberation Front in command of a group of militiamen fighting for freedom. In addition to the characters already mentioned, Gabriel Luna will return to the show in the role of Tommy and Rutina Wesley in that of Maria, while among the new arrivals there will also be Isabela Merced in the role of Dina, Young Mazino in that of Jesse, Ariela Barer in the role of Mel , Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen and Danny Ramirez as Manny.
Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin spoke exhaustively about the number of episodes that will make up the second season and the future of the franchise in their latest interview released in June for Deadline. We discover first of all that there will be seven episodes, two less than the previous season, and the reason - as explained by Mazin - lies in the desire to extend the plot of the second video game also to a probable third season: «We therefore had to understand how to tell the story through the seasons. When you do that, you look for natural stopping points and as we outlined this season the point seemed to come after seven episodes. We are giving ourselves time to tell it and follow interesting paths as we did a bit in the first season too."
Regarding the number of seasons planned, the showrunner then made the following previews: «Season 3 will have many more episodes. And the story could also require the 4." Druckmann then intervened to broaden the discussion, stating that the spirit of the original game in which feelings such as love and revenge are explored in the new episodes will be maintained : «More specifically, it is a continuation of the love of the first season and this is simply the dark side of that coin, the search for justice at any cost for the people you love and the exploration of that feeling."
