But it will also face overcrowding on the most popular beaches and environmental challenges for an island that seeks to make a leap in quality, but not necessarily in quantity.

However, there is optimism among seaside businesses: bookings have arrived, and the weather is cooperating these days to best accommodate millions of tourists. This commitment also sees municipalities at the forefront, trying to stem the excessive presence of tourists by limiting access to the most beautiful and fragile coasts.

"Next week, beach resorts will be at full capacity," assures Gigi Molinari, representative of FIBA Sardegna, the federation of holiday entrepreneurs affiliated with Confesercenti. "After all, all the conditions for a positive season are in place. In times of international crisis, Italian vacationers have always chosen to seek refuge in quiet, nearby areas. And Sardinia could be the ideal destination for those who don't want to take risks."
