The effects of the economic crisis linked to the pandemic are still very present in Sardinia. The data of the Tagliacarne-Unioncamere Institute reworked by the Study Office of Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna confirm that none of the provinces of the island exceeded the wealth produced in 2019 in 2021.

Some sectors are recovering, such as construction and manufacturing, others such as agriculture are "in the shadows", while services report a negative balance .

The report analyzed the added value produced by each individual Sardinian and Italian territory, between 2019 and 2021, and none of the 5 Sardinian provinces has put the Covid crisis behind them, exceeding the wealth produced in 2019.

Considering the percentage change in added value between 2019 and 2021, the best of the Sardinian territories is Oristano which records -0.88% (40th in Italy), followed by Cagliari with -0.91% (42nd), Nuoro with -0.95% (44th), South Sardinia with -1.07% (50th). Closes, with a deep red, Sassari-Gallura with -2.37% (95th).

At the national level, only 22 provinces out of 107 have the positive sign: more than half are located in Campania and Sicily. Top growth in added value in Enna with +2.9%, against the national average of -1.2%. Bolzano closes with -5.32%.

As far as per capita product income is concerned, in Sardinia Cagliari opens with 26,259 euros per person, which confirms itself as the "richest" province (43rd place nationally); followed by Sassari-Gallura with 19,349 (77th), Nuoro with 17,809 (84th), Oristano with 17,210 (89th) .

South Sardinia last at the regional level with only 14,542 euros, is also the third last in Italy.

«The island still has to work hard to recover from the pandemic shock because what emerges from these data, in general, is not at all comforting - comment Maria Amelia Lai and Daniele Serra, president and secretary of Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna - even if, in construction and in manufacturing, it is demonstrating a capacity for resilience and reaction capable of bringing it among the realities that have exceeded the pre-Covid levels of economic activity. In addition to agriculture, which is in crisis in every part of Italy, we are concerned about services for which we did not expect such a slowdown».

And there are historical problems that weigh on the development of the region : "This is why we ask that the principle of insularity be implemented immediately - continue Lai and Serra - because the need for a better condition has been recognized on the island than the one it has lived for 70 years now. Not the request for privileges or shortcuts, but only the need to have the same opportunities for growth, development, equal rights and opportunities that other companies in other contexts have always had. Entrepreneurs do not want welfare: they only ask to be able to compete on equal terms with the rest of the European and Mediterranean realities. So go away the gaps, such as those related to credit, competitiveness, bureaucracy, infrastructure, energy, transport and productivity, which force the medium, small and micro enterprises of Sardinia to lag behind the other competitors”.
