One of the most iconic Italian alternative rock bands, straight from the depths of Genoa to Cagliari's Jester Club: Meganoidi will perform on Saturday the 15th , bringing old and new gems from a beloved repertoire spanning nearly thirty years. The show is set for 8:30 PM, part of the Sardignitalia festival.
The band's origins can be traced back to the Ligurian capital in 1997, when they initially gathered to play ska-punk inspired by bands like Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake, and chose their name from the famous antagonists of the old anime "Daitarn 3". Success finally arrived for the band in 2001 with the generational cult song "Supereroi contro la municipale". At the same time, the old sounds were starting to feel restrictive, and by migrating towards progressive-tinged alternative rock, they formalized their experimental turn with the album "Outside the Loop, Stupendo Sensation" (2003), which was aligned against the greed of record companies and therefore more politicized, and the subsequent extended play with melancholic tones "And Then We Met Impero" (2005). After participating in the compilation "GE2001", which involved numerous Italian artists to financially contribute to the trials for the G8 events, in 2006 they released their third album "Granvanoeli", in which the abstract atmospheres become denser, definitively marking the band's post-rock turning point.
Maintaining a loyal following thanks to their energetic concerts and distinctive cross-linguistic humor, they have over time become one of the symbols of the Italian underground scene. Five years after their last album and after a tour that took them across the country in 2024, they finally return in January 2025 with an excerpt from their next album, "I Set di Hollywood," and dedicating a tour of the same name to it, featuring them at the Jester.
