The elusive Green Flash, the green ray that manifests itself at sunset or sunrise over the sea is a very difficult phenomenon to observe. Known since antiquity, Jules Verne wrote of him: "... a green ray, but of a wonderful green, of a green that no painter can obtain on his palette, a green of which nature, neither in the variety of plants, nor in the color of the clearest sea, has ever reproduced the nuance! If there is green in paradise, it can only be that green, the true color of hope ”.
The green ray depends in part on the dispersion that creates the atmosphere, absorbing and dispersing the various wavelengths of light, letting only the green light pass, when the Sun is now almost beyond the horizon.
To try to observe it, it is not enough to look at the sun that rises or sets, but you need to have the horizon completely clear and conditions of optimal transparency of the sky. The sea is therefore the right place to look for the Green Flash, and these days the excellent weather conditions increase the chances of seeing the rare phenomenon.
Last night 8 February, it was possible to observe the Green Flash from the south-west coast, in particular from the Nebida viewpoint, It is therefore possible that even tonight we can still admire the spectacular Green Flash, admiring a beautiful sunset from one of the many coastal locations of our Island.
