The Gavoi Festival stops, in 2023 no "Island of Stories": "We need stimuli"
The now traditional summer literary event in the town of Barbagia has been suspended: a goodbye or a goodbye?
For now it feels like goodbye. The fear is that it could be goodbye. The certainty is that the cultural association "L'Isola delle Storie" "communicates that the next edition of the literary festival will be held in Gavoi from 4 to 7 July 2024". No authors and literature, therefore, in the summer of 2023, for an event born in 2004 and which went on without interruption. Until now.
"For this year the association continues the activity of promoting reading through illustration workshops and exhibitions with local schools, already scheduled starting from the month of March", reads a note. The Festival, continues the explanation, «will enjoy "a sabbatical year", a precious and necessary period of time for the association that wishes to regain energy, new stimuli and a renewed vitality».
Sudden news. At the end of the 2022 edition, it can still be read on the website, an appointment had been made for the following year. But conditions have arisen that have led to the stop.
«These components», like the new energies, «are indispensable for carrying out a wide-ranging cultural project such as the literary festival, supported over the years by the voluntary work of the members, who over time have created an event and an impressive organizational model, which requires continuous commitment, immense dedication and enormous responsibilities».
Artistic director Marcello Fois prefers not to add further statements to a statement which, he claims, is quite clear and exhaustive.
