In a few days, the facade will also be demolished and nothing will remain of the former maritime station of the port of Via Roma. The work for “The complete redevelopment and conversion of the former maritime station into a multipurpose center for recreational boating services and for the tourist use of the area; the revision of the landing system for yachts and private boats along the Calata Sant'Agostino and the arrangement of the public space between the new landings and the Via Roma landing” is continuing in full compliance with the schedule. A project managed by the Marina di Porto Rotondo, through a project financing that involves a private investment of 34 million euros.

The state of the art
«The facade of the old building is not subject to any constraints of the Superintendency, nor anything else because it is not 70 years old». Natale Ditel, secretary general of the Port Authority, as a premise wants to dispel an urban legend that has been circulating on social media for some time. «More simply, in that area there are two electrical cabins, in recent days we decided on their new location and soon they will be moved». With the latest demolition, the skyline of the port of via will change completely. For a short time, however, because the work carried out by the construction company Pellegrini, the same one that is working on the construction site of via Roma, in other areas of the port, at the Ex Fas of Elmas and that will have to demolish and rebuild the market of San Benedetto, will continue with the excavations. «Underground, on the dock, the hotel services will have to be built: laundry, storage and more», says Ditel. «Unfortunately the heights cannot be changed and will have to be the same plus one meter as the old maritime station». Given the precedents in the city's construction sites, will the deadlines be respected? "Yes," adds the Authority's general secretary, "the service center with annexed hotel and moorings for giga yachts will be completed in less than two years."
Soon, the internal circulation of the port of Via Roma will also change, with inevitable repercussions also for the traffic, already chaotic, on the New York 11 Settembre waterfront. «By the end of the month, the construction site will start to build a fountain and the teak walk», reveals Ditel. «As a consequence, the parking lots, currently reserved for buses and taxis, in front of the former maritime station, in Calata Azuni, will be eliminated.
The hotel
The new building will be developed on three levels plus a basement used for technical rooms. The ground floor of the structure will be dedicated to recreational boating services with reception, waiting room, staff and security offices, toilets, luggage storage, first aid clinics, but also commercial and catering activities with outdoor spaces facing the sea and an infinity pool. The upper floors will house 36 rooms, a wellness area with gym and spa, a swimming pool and panoramic terraces.
