Archeology and culture unite Barumini to Naples. To make the two territories, rich in history, even closer, is the new collaboration agreement signed between the Barumini Sistema Cultura Foundation and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (Mann).

The memorandum of understanding was signed by the president of the Foundation, Emanuele Lilliu and the director of Mann, Paolo Giulierini.

The three-year agreement aims to carry out scientific projects for dissemination purposes in the field of archaeological research.

The project, which crowns the great success achieved by the exhibition "Humanum Sardinia and Campania, from Su Nuraxi to Pompeii" inaugurated in Barumini last summer, will also develop through synergistic actions of promotion and enhancement thanks to archaeological exhibitions, conferences, scientific publications and collaborations included in the Unesco circuit in Europe.

IMPORTANT AGREEMENT - "We welcomed the opportunity to enter into this important agreement with a large museum of national and international fame - comments Emanuele Lilliu, president of the Barumini Sistema Cultura Foundation - this collaboration will enable the promotion of our territories in the panorama Italian and foreign, able to strengthen us in the various tourist markets ". According to Tonino Chironi, secretary general of the Foundation, "it is essential in this process to be a UNESCO recognized site. In fact, two thirds of our target of tourists are foreigners and that is why we need to continue to consolidate our tourism product in extra national areas ".

"We are happy to be able to continue the collaboration with Barumini that began last year with the Humanum exhibition", the words of the director of the National Museum of Naples, Paolo Giulierini. "We are talking about an innovative network between a Unesco site, that of Barumini and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, inserted right inside a historic center recognized by Unesco - continues Giulierini - this aspect has an added value thanks to the interesting management method, which links an independent museum and a Foundation. good practice also for many other new experiences ".

THE STAGES - The three-year program will be divided into several stages: from March 2022, at the G. Lilliu Center, an exhibition on the Etruscans will be organized, linked to the path promoted at MANN in 2020. At the Archaeological, however, there will be a dedicated exhibition space in Barumini on the occasion of the international exhibition “Sardegna Megalithic Island. From menhirs to nuraghi: stories of stone in the heart of the Mediterranean ”(10 June / 11 September 2022), after the stops in Berlin, St. Petersburg and Thessaloniki. The collaboration will also be supported by workshops, periodic updating programs between the mutual offices on teaching topics, by focus on public archeology, with particular reference to technology and open data.

During the three years of the agreement, there is also space for scientific studies on the Italic peoples and on the connections between the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean.
