The appointment with the European elections: an opportunity to rediscover a new soul of the EU
The importance of increasing the competitiveness of the economic systemPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The June electoral appointment is approaching, the direct confrontation between Giorgia Meloni and Elly Schlein , personally involved in the awaited electoral competition, seems to have faded away , at least for the moment, and all in all, considering the need to leave aside the protagonism of the leaders and to instead give prominence to the candidates who, if they reach the number of preferences, will actually become part of the European Parliament, perhaps it was for the best.
With the vote on 8 and 9 June, a new supra-national political phase will open in which Italy will necessarily have to carve out a role of primary importance. Defining the current one as a period of complex transition could help convey the idea of the need for a reorganization at a general global level, given the ongoing conflicts, and given the difficult economic situation which, at different levels, the States, and consequently their citizens, find themselves having to face.
Today more than yesterday, with good likelihood, the various majority and opposition political forces should intervene to contribute to the improvement of the institutional structure in order to make it as suitable as possible to the need to find a renewed ethical and political foundation at a national level , as at a European level. The evolution of the times, and the sudden change in the geopolitical framework of reference, forcefully imposes it. Probably also for this reason it would be important , beyond the perhaps too accelerated reformism (the doubtful formula imposes itself dutifully), which characterizes the current political phase, to intervene in a more stringent manner in order to be able to increase the competitiveness of the economic system through reorganization of the workforce from a human and collective bargaining point of view, through better valorisation of the workforce and its training systems.
The center-right won the elections on 25 September 2022 with a large majority, and immediately announced its commitment to carrying forward certain reforms considered important for the country. Among these, great weight was given to the " premiership " and the implementation of " differentiated autonomy ". Two reforms which, on the basis of different orders of evaluation, have a very strong impact, admitted and perhaps not granted, time will tell, that the same, due to the methods of their practical implementation and their impact on real life, can coexist in the context of the same legal system.
Yet, generally, and with good plausibility traditionally, we had become accustomed to considering centre-left parties as reformist, at least by way of example and not exhaustively. Saying it otherwise, and to better understand the novelty of current times, for the first time in Italian republican history, a right-wing party , such as the one led by Giorgia Meloni, i.e. Brothers of Italy, has managed to play a strategic role at the helm of the Government . As a result, Italy has, since 25 September 2022, been characterized as a European Union country which, together with others led by as many right-wing parties, seems to have strengthened its ranks.
It is already difficult to say at present, considering the different souls coexisting in the centre-right coalition, whether the circumstance will be so decisive as to modify the characterizing approach of European solidarity socialism, but, undoubtedly, it leads to a broader reflection, which involves the profound reasons for this involution. Beyond the peculiarities that seem to characterize each of the twenty-seven countries that are part of the European Union, and the requests that they will make themselves bearers of in the interest of their citizens, it will be extremely interesting to understand what role the European Union will be able to play in the international geopolitical context , what will be the soul, so to speak, which will then be reflected in common political choices. Probably, as a consequence of the profound changes that have occurred in the social fabric even before the political one (which would be a direct consequence) after the pandemic period, it would be necessary both at a national and European level to create a new approach to politics and its function. And find a renewed common ideal that is more responsive to the sudden evolution of the times and the changes underway. So what will be the Europe that will emerge in the aftermath of the June votes? It would be important to create an authentic Europe of Peoples, tailored to citizens , capable of reflecting their needs in order to satisfy them. A competitive Europe, mediator between peoples at an international level . In Italy, which of the two leading parties of the opposing coalitions , the Brothers of Italy and the Democratic Party, will be able to better express the need for the change that is advancing? Or will the more moderate forces prevail? Only one certainty remains firm: that of the necessity of the European Union as such.
