Tomorrow, May 29, the national day of palliative care is celebrated, those that do not aim to speed up or delay a process or to cure a disease, but have the task of preserving the best possible quality of life for the patient.

An approach, confirmed by the World Health Organization, which serves to give relief to patients suffering from incurable diseases and also to their families.

Path followed by the San Giovanni di Dio of Cagliari . Palliative care, explains Maria Cristina Deidda, oncologist and referent of the service, “ also brings relief to pain of a psychological, social and spiritual nature. So relief not only in the terminal phase of life and mourning, but in every phase of the treatment process, even during chemo and radiotherapy ".

The national day, established in 2001, this year aims to promote and sensitize the population towards the culture of relief.
