It is a precious archaeological heritage that documents the different phases of life of the Roman colony of Turris Libisonis, the ancient city of Porto Torres, founded in the pre-Augustan age, probably by Julius Caesar who stopped on the island in 46 BC.
The National Archaeological Museum Antiquarium Turritano, as part of the Christmas program, will celebrate, in the coming days, the 40th anniversary of activity through events curated by the Regional Directorate of Museums Sardinia and the director of the museum, Stefano Giuliani, which include meetings, conferences and exhibitions. Built in December 1984, the building preserves an immense wealth, exposed to the public and told to the many visitors who wanted to nourish themselves with culture and learn more about the history of the city of Porto Torres.
Currently the museum, redeveloped with a different innovative approach, provides an exhibition route divided into two levels: on the ground floor are exhibited the objects that come from the necropolises brought to light throughout the urban area. On the upper floor you can admire the finds from the imposing complex of the thermal baths, visible in the adjacent archaeological area, and the marble section. To these is added the municipal collection, with objects that cover a chronological span that goes from the Bronze Age to the 5th century AD, not all of which come from the territory of Porto Torres.
