A new film, out on May 12, dedicated to the "Mincemeat" operation (in English, minced meat) or the secret plan conceived in the spring of 1943 by the British secret services to make the Third Reich believe that the Allied troops would land in Sardinia and Greece.

It is titled "The weapon of deception - Operation Mincemeat", directed by John Madden and starring Colin Firth (2010 Oscar winner for "The King's Speech") in the role of Ewen Montagu, the creator of the project (it seems suggested by Ian Fleming, the writer father of James Bond, also enlisted in the British secret services), thought of as a stratagem to "cover" the real place of the landing of the British and Americans, which took place - as is well known - in Sicily.

Historically, to mislead the Germans, Her Majesty's secret services found, on the coast of southern Spain, a lifeless body (it was a Welsh man who committed suicide from rat poisoning) wearing the uniform of a major of the Royal Marines. In one of the pockets the body had some documents, created ad hoc by the British 007, which confirmed - in fact - an imminent Allied landing in Sardinia and Greece.

After the discovery, by some fishermen, the documents reached the Spanish secret services who transcribed them and informed the German secret services of the discovery.

The information collected was deemed reliable and, also thanks to the bizarre plan elaborated by Montagu, the Reich strengthened the guard in Sardinia and Greece, leaving instead Sicily uncovered, the starting point, together with Normandy, of the allied counter-offensive to liberate Europe. by the Nazis.

In addition to Colin Firth, there are also two other British actors, Matthew MacFayden and Kelly Macdonald.
