The importance of memory and the values transmitted by the soldiers who dedicated self-sacrifice and courage to the country.

Many in the council room of the Municipality of Porto Torres wanted to gather around those memories, including soldiers and family members of the war dead, who participated in the presentation of the latest work by Moreno Nocco , the historical researcher who named his new book “ Those decorated for military valor of Porto Torres in the two world wars ”. The publication is the result of in-depth historical research, carried out in Italy and abroad, full of unpublished documents and testimonies that transmit to contemporaries the stories of heroes, some who survived, others who died defending their homeland.

Forty-one Turritans were decorated for military valor in the two wars , the highest reward recognised. Of these, twenty-two belonged to the army, thirteen to the navy, one to the Carabinieri, two to the Financial Police and three to the air force.

The meeting moderated by the journalist Gianni Bazzoni was also attended by the mayor Massimo Mulas and the president of the city council Franco Satta. «A book with a strong identity character that offers unpublished pages on some brave characters of Porto Torres», said the author Moreno Nocco, president of the fighters section of Porto Torres. «Story of protagonists whose lives intersected during the two world wars, and a historical journey that I wanted to tell driven by my personal passions which are linked to military stories», he added.

Soldiers who suffered in prison camps, in India and Australia, captured by the enemy and taken away from their families . In the volume the memory is also addressed to the war amputees, twenty veterans who founded the association of war amputees and invalids. The first president was Gavino Bazzoni, a soldier of the Sassari Brigade who suffered the amputation of both legs.

« Paolino Bazzoni was the first decorated for military valor , while the first member of the Sassari Brigade, in the 152nd regiment, awarded this recognition was Ettore Paglietti».

During the meeting, the proposal was put forward to create a museum of memories to preserve the historical military heritage of the city that Moreno Nocco highlighted in his book.
