"Now we must immediately convene a technical table to verify which model of territorial continuity Sardinia should adopt ". So the general secretary of Ultrasporti Sardegna , William Zonca , after the news of the safety measures on the Alghero sections .

"The priorities are not only those of the Sardinians' right to mobility , but also the right to the economic development of the territory ", adds Zonca. «We must make our island competitive on a par with other tourist realities , also as regards the transport of goods. For this reason we believe that the question cannot be tackled in a simplistic way with recipes such as that of a single tender to fill the deficits of some territories, but it is necessary to find a model that guarantees not only the connections but also the development of the territories and the economy of the whole island without leaving anyone behind».

According to Uiltrasporti , Sardinia must go to the European Union with a transversal unitary proposal that is not canceled with each change of council, a proposal from the entire regional council that is first shared with the national government and then brought to Brussels .

The single tender - continues Zonca - would limit the use of at least ten aircraft , a factor that would restrict the field of action for the large carriers or even worse, would lead to the aggregation of mini carriers with guarantees and standards that are not typical of territorial continuity. Conversely, according to the union, in the new model the companies will have to offer indispensable services for Sardinian citizens without losing the quality and services achieved and guaranteed up to now.

«It is essential to explore new paths such as creating a "regional" company under the control of the ITA Airways company with the participation of other regions such as Sicily and perhaps also expanding to Lazio and Lombardy , equally affected by connections in territorial continuity, in order to create a reference vector that is not a prisoner of market rules and can recover the professionalism that has been dispersed over the years. In our opinion, this is a viable path, the proposal that we will put on the table of the Region ».

As regards the solidarity agreement signed for the 227 Sogeaal employees in Alghero, Uiltrasporti underlines, looking to the future, the need for «a change of pace for Sogeaal, primarily in industrial relations which will be involved in resolving various structural problems and thus bringing better for the employees". "Finally, we believe it is essential - the conclusion - that the Alghero airport takes action in the search for new commercial agreements with a larger number of carriers that allow the relaunch of the airport and the economic growth of the territory".
