Giulio Zeppieri qualifies for the quarterfinals of the Cagliari Superchallenger. The 21-year-old left-handed Roman ruled 6-2, 6-0 Mattia Bellucci in the Italian derby of the day. The match was fought more than the result suggests, with the 21-year-old from Busto Arsizio who took the lead 2-1 in the first set, but then failed to win one of the several games that ended with Zeppieri lining up eleven in a row.
Andrea Pellegrino gave hope in the blue surprise, but surrendered to physical problems, before his opponent, retiring on 6-7(2), 6-1, 3-1 for the French Ugo Humbert, number 6 of the tournament.
The surprise came from Taro Daniel. The Japanese born in New York, 109 in the world rankings, surprised the American Mackenzie McDonald 6-2, 6-3, number 3 in the tournament and 54 Atp.
All from the script for the debut of Laslo Djere. The Serbian, seeded number 4, finalist here in the ATP 250 two years ago, beat Slovakian Jozef Kovalik 6-4, 6-2.
Expected in the field Alessandro Giannessi against the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis. Then it will be time for the first match for the top two seeds: the Japanese Yoshihita Nishioka (against the Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan) and, in the evening, the American Ben Shelton (against the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan).
