Lorenzo Carboni qualifies for the Australian Open juniors.
The 16-year-old tennis player from Alghero has passed the two rounds of the qualifying draw played on the concrete of the Traralgon club and will make his debut on the Melbourne Park courts during the Italian night between Saturday and Sunday.
Carboni (number 103 in the world rankings) overcame two opponents one year older than him: he began by defeating the Australian Cristian Care (295 ITF) 6-4, 6-3, before adjusting 6-2, 6- 4 in the decisive round the French Jules Leroux (94 Itf).
The young Sardinian tennis player, registered for Tc Italia in Forte dei Marmi, is followed in Australia by coach Gianluigi Quinzi (who won Wimbledon in 2013 at junior level) and physical trainer Dragoljub Kladarin for the Piatti Tennis Center.
