The 2025 Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup Trophy Tour has started its Sardinian tour from Olbia. The two trophies will remain on display, for the public of enthusiasts, in the Club House of the Tc Terranova until tomorrow, Thursday 19 June. The great event was presented this morning during a press conference at the Tc Terranova, in the presence of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation Angelo Binaghi, the president of Fitp Sardinia Franco Bellini, the mayor of Olbia Settimo Nizzi, and the president of the Tc Terranova Giuseppe Bianco, recently appointed national director of the Fitp, as announced today by Binaghi himself. In the audience, with the entire Board of Directors of the Gallura club, also the municipal councilor for Sport Elena Casu.
"The trophies here with the Trophy Tour represent a success that comes from the bottom, that comes from the effort of our sports clubs, among which I want to highlight the work of the Terranova Tennis Club which has a great tradition and counts on the support of local Administrations. The latter have a fundamental role in the development of the facilities and the synergies that must be created so that tennis, and sport in general, collects successes and is a driver of social growth - underlined President Binaghi - The Terranova Tc deserves more than others, a sporting reality consolidated at regional and national level, with an excellent school and structure and a great tournament. 47 years have passed since the moment in which we dreamed of winning this cup again and Sardinia brings us luck, we have always won here on the Island. The Sardinians have merit, they were protagonists of this long journey that led us to be winners of the Davis Cup in 2023 and 2024. This year we will be the hosts in Bologna and we must try to keep it in Italy, including the women's championship that will be held in China from September. We must do somersaults to have more facilities, because we have taken the place of football in the hearts of Italians".
Great enthusiasm for the Trophy Tour in Olbia also from the mayor Nizzi: «For me it is an honor and I thank the president Binaghi for the great work, it is exciting to see the most important international tennis trophies in Olbia».
The Davis and Bjkc will remain in the Clubhouse of the TC Terranova until tomorrow to celebrate the recent and extraordinary successes of Italy in the most important team competitions of international tennis, and already since yesterday, after the set-up, many people have come to see the most important trophies of national men's and women's team tennis up close.
The Olbia stop officially opens the national tour and represents a significant recognition for the host club. "Being chosen as the first stop of this tour is a source of great pride for which I thank the federation, I believe it is a reward for the activities that we have been carrying out for years - says President Bianco - Tennis is now the true national team, we have regained the Davis Cup, for us it is an honor to have it here and also a testimony of the trust that the Federation places in our work and in the commitment to promoting tennis in the area".
The Davis Cup has returned to Italy for two consecutive years. After the 2023 triumph against Australia (the first in 47 years), the Italian team led by captain Filippo Volandri confirmed itself in Malaga also in 2024, overcoming the Netherlands in the final thanks to a solid and close-knit group that saw among the protagonists the world number one Jannik Sinner, with Matteo Arnaldi, Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Sonego, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
Same extraordinary path for the Billie Jean King Cup 2024. The Italian team, under the guidance of captain Tathiana Garbin, has been able to establish itself at a world level with players of the caliber of Jasmine Paolini, Sara Errani, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Lucia Bronzetti and Martina Trevisan, bringing Italy back to the top of the world after a long wait.
The Tour Trophy represents a unique opportunity for the public of Olbia and all of Gallura, who have the chance to see the two trophies up close and compare themselves with the recent history of Italian tennis. An opportunity that Tc Terranova has seized with enthusiasm, transforming itself for three days into the home of Italian tennis.
